3.5.7 Chapter 6 - GS maintenance instructions. This chapter shall cover maintenance instructions
authorized by the MAC for GS maintenance. It shall include the following sections.
3.5.7.1 Section I - functioning of equipment. This section shall explain mechanical, electrical, electro-
mechanical, , electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic functioning of components and assemblies only when not
self-evident, when not covered in prior chapters, and when an understanding on how the equipment works is
essential for proper maintenance. Non repairable, replaceable components shall not be explained in detail.
Pertinent data that will enable GS maintenance to isolate a defective part shall be given. Reference shall be
made to the unit and DS maintenance chapters of the manual for additional explanations of equipment
functioning.
3.5.7.2 Section II - troubleshooting. (See 3.2.4.3 and adjust to GS level.)

3.6.1 Front matter. Front matter shall be prepared in accordance with MIL-STD-38784.
3.6.2 Chapter 1 - introduction. This chapter shall consist of the following sections:
3.6.2.1 Section I - general. This section shall consist of the following paragraphs:
a. Scope. This paragraph shall contain the following statement: "These instructions are for use
by unit maintenance personnel. They apply to ( name of equipment)."
b. Forms, records, and reports. (See 3.2.2.1b)
c. Destruction of army materiel to prevent enemy use. (See 3.3.2.1c)
